Keeping your heart healthy

The ‘silly season’ is now over, work is back in full swing, the kids are back at school, the dog isn’t being walked enough and deadlines are following you around like a dark cloud.

Good habits formed in January with the best of intentions often fall by the wayside by the time February arrives, often resulting in a drop in exercise. After a period of time, this lack of exercise and other unhealthy lifestyle habits can place significant stress on the heart.

These very lifestyle habits place a huge burden on Australia’s overall health. In 2011-12, the Australian Bureau of Statistics reported that over 1.1 million Australians were living with heart disease, with a staggering 47% of men over 85 living with heart problems.
